ARGENTINA
REVOLUTION DAY
The 25th of May is one of the most important holidays in Argentina. The May Revolution was a week-long series of events that took place from May 18-25 in 1810 and it began Argentina’s War for Independence from Spain, which was ultimately successful. Although the entire week was full of revolutionary events, the 25th is commemorated because on this day, the citizens of Buenos Aires gathered together in the main square which is now named the “Plaza de 25 de Mayo."
Today, the day is celebrated with the family. Family members gather together to prepare and eat traditional Argentinian foods. There are also festive parades in the streets and a gathering in Buenos Aires, there is a large gathering where one can go and hear speeches given by government officials.
